Mary F. Campagnolo, MD, MBA, FAAFP, a family physician in Bordentown, New Jersey, is a member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The AAFP represents 127,600 physicians and medical students nationwide. As an AAFP board member, Campagnolo advocates on behalf of family physicians and patients nationwide to inspire positive change in the U.S. health care system.

Campagnolo has practiced family medicine for 35 years, currently at Virtua Primary Care of Mansfield. In addition, she serves as medical director of Virtua Medical Group Value Based Programs and Payer Contracts. In this role, she oversees collaboration with commercial and government health insurers. She formerly served Virtua Health, a 5-hospital health system in southern New Jersey, as designated institutional official for graduate medical education where she led the accreditation and operations of five Virtua-sponsored residencies, as well as the training for more than 400 students, resident physicians and fellows from numerous affiliated regional academic medical centers each year. Since, 1993 she has chaired the Department of Family Medicine-Virtua North-Memorial Hospital of Burlington County in Mount Holly, New Jersey, and was awarded the Distinguished Career Award in October 2019 by the Virtua Health Medical Staff.

A member of the AAFP since 1985, Campagnolo has served the AAFP as a member of the Commission on Quality and Practice, plus as member and later chair of the Commission on Finance and Insurance. At the state level, Campagnolo has served the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians in various leadership roles including president-elect, president and board chair. She has also represented New Jersey as alternate and delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates.

Campagnolo was the 220th president of the Medical Society of New Jersey in 2012-13, and the third of four women elected president since that organization’s founding in 1766. Campagnolo earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and zoology from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine. She completed her family medicine residency program at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey, where she served as chief resident. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Rutgers University School of Business in Camden, New Jersey.

She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in geriatrics. She has the AAFP Degree of Fellow, an earned degree awarded to family physicians for distinguished service and continuing medical education.
