Coping in Context

The following stories describe two families as they respond and deal with daily challenges following the death of a family member. These stories are not about actual people, but reflect the types of situations that some families experience.

As you read, please think about the coping strategies (described in Ways of Coping) that each character uses and notice how some of these strategies vary over time. These stories also illustrate how different types of coping strategies could affect both the individual and other people in their life.

At the end of each story, there are some multiple-choice questions and answers that you can click on to test your knowledge about the types of coping strategies that each character used. Select a story below to get started.
