Curriculum Recommendations for Disaster Health Professionals: Disaster Behavioral Health

“Curriculum Recommendations for Disaster Health Professionals: Disaster Behavioral Health” is NCDMPH's second in a series of disaster health curriculum recommendations. This product is a result of a unique collaborative effort between NCDMPH and the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, two research centers affiliated with the Uniformed Services University. The contributing authors from CSTS are Brian W. Flynn, Ed.D., RADM, USPHS, Ret. and Joshua C Morganstein, MD, CDR, UPSHS.

“Curriculum Recommendations for Disaster Health Professionals: Disaster Behavioral Health” provides resources on planning education and training activities on behavioral health factors in disasters to those working with health professionals. As with many NCDMPH products, these recommendations align with the disaster health core competencies outlined in "Core Competencies for Disaster Medicine and Public Health" in Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness, the co-authored article by AMA Center for Public Health Preparedness and Disaster Response and five NCDMPH staff members.

The information found in this document is not a prescriptive curriculum, but rather recommendations. Educators should tailor these recommendations for their particular needs and circumstances, selecting those learning objectives, topics, and resources which are appropriate for their learners' needs, and the scope of their education and training programs.
