Elisa M. Childs, PhD, MSW, LCSW, is a Prevention Scientist for the National Guard Program at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress. Dr. Childs received her BSW and MSW from Middle Tennessee State University and her PhD in Social Work from the University of Georgia. Dr. Childs’ experience includes working as an Assistant Research Scientist for the University of Iowa’s Center for Public Health Evaluation and Research, evaluating CDC-funded public health programs focusing on health promotion, chronic disease prevention, and eliminating disparities related to social determinants of health. Dr. Childs was also a hospice social worker and the Director of Social Services for one of Southern California’s largest skilled nursing facilities. Additionally, she maintains an independent research portfolio focused on expanding rural healthcare access in medically underserved areas by examining the intersection of access and quality.
