Marita is a Research Assistant at the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS). She graduated from the University of California, Riverside (UCR) in June 2020 with a BS in Neuroscience. During her time at UCR, Marita was a member of Dr. David Rosenbaum’s Lab for Cognition and Action, where she worked on independent projects that discerned the underlying processes of mental life to behavior. In addition, Marita assisted with research in the Animal Aeroacoustics Lab at UCR where she was actively involved in field work observing behavioral differences between different male hummingbird species. In June 2019, Marita joined a medical brigade in Honduras under a non-profit as a student volunteer aiming towards granting impoverished communities basic health care and hygiene. Marita has spent a majority of her college career and beyond involved in many community service projects. Through her position at CSTS, Marita hopes to continue to develop her understanding of posttraumatic stress disorder and trauma-related sleep disturbances. She is currently a research assistant for the NDR study site in San Diego, California. Her long-term goal is to obtain a doctorate in Optometry and specialize in ocular disease with an emphasis on neuro-optometric rehabilitation.
